Video: Husain Haqqani, in service of ISI-sponsored IJI led by Nawaz Sharif (a friend of Osama bin Laden):

“By and large there are two things, there is a common vision of Pakistan being basically a conservative Muslim state and the difference is essentially on its details, but the basic principle which is acknowledged is that it is will not be a secular state, it has to be an Islamic state. Most of the components of the IJI are parties or individuals who suffered during PPP era at the hand of party policies and its rather high-handed approach to politics”.

  1. Pakistani Ambassador Is Forced Out Over Memo
    By SALMAN MASOOD
    Published: November 22, 2011

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Husain Haqqani, the embattled Pakistani ambassador to the United States, resigned Tuesday in the wake of accusations that he had sought American help to rein in the powerful Pakistani military.

Although he had hoped to stay on, Mr. Haqqani offered to resign last week. But on Tuesday, the prime minister said he should resign so that an investigation into the accusations could be “carried out properly.”

The accusations center on a memo that Mansoor Ijaz, an American businessman of Pakistani origin, said Mr. Haqqani asked him to have it delivered to Adm. Mike Mullen, then the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. According to Mr. Ijaz, the memo asked for American help in heading off a possible military-led coup and promised concessions in return.

The accusations, which Mr. Haqqani denies, created a political storm in Pakistan, where anti-American feelings run high and Mr. Haqqani is considered by some to be an apologist for the United States.

He has also made enemies among some in the military for his criticisms of the army before he became ambassador. Some analysts believe that the military’s leaders, who wield the real power in the country, pushed for the government to oust Mr. Haqqani.

Some American officials on Tuesday expressed concern that Mr. Haqqani’s exit could complicate attempts by the United States and Pakistan to repair badly strained relations.

Political commentators said President Asif Ali Zardari, who considered Mr. Haqqani a close aide, appeared to have decided to distance himself from the controversy for political considerations.

Mr. Zardari and his party hope to maintain power past elections in 2013, and analysts say that he was likely to be reacting to the military, opposition figures and the country’s aggressive media, which had all begun to pummel him for a lack of action on the memo.

“The fact that Mr. Haqqani has been virtually sacked speaks of which way the wind is blowing,” said Arif Nizami, editor of the English-language daily newspaper Pakistan Today. “The military had never been in love with Mr. Haqqani and was critical of his role in Washington, D.C.”

He added that by handing over the investigations to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, who is not thought to have a soft spot for Mr. Haqqani, Mr. Zardari had already indicated that he was not willing to worsen the considerable tensions that exist between the civilian government and the military.

In a text message on Tuesday evening, Mr. Haqqani said he would continue to serve Pakistan and its democracy in whatever way possible.

“I have resigned to bring closure to this meaningless controversy threatening our fledgling democracy,” he said.

A former spokesman for Admiral Mullen said last week that he had received the memo, but that he did not find it credible and took no action. The memo was unsigned, the former spokesman said.

Talat Masood, a retired lieutenant general and political analyst based in Islamabad, said the resignation would not greatly affect Pakistan-United States relations, even though Mr. Haqqani had been a vocal supporter of close cooperation between the two countries.

“The relationship between Pakistan and the U.S. is transactional and based on strategic reasons. It won’t be affected by one person,” Mr. Masood said.

Matthew Rosenberg contributed reporting from Washington.

  2. The development came following the meeting of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, ISI Chief Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha, where Haqqani was summoned to give his version. The embattled envoy reportedly faced tough questions from the participants of the meeting, which culminated in the directives from the prime minister to hold an inquiry into the scandal.

Reports said Haqqani was questioned about every aspect of the memo scandal. The questions asked were prepared by the military top brass, sources said. According to spokesman of the Prime Minister’s House, the prime minister directed a detailed investigation at an appropriate level while asking Haqqani to submit his resignation so that the investigation could be carried out properly. The spokesman said that all concerned would be afforded sufficient and fair opportunity to present their views and the investigation shall be carried out fairly, objectively and without bias.

According to the PM House spokesman, the PM asked Haqqani to resign, however, the latter tweeted on his account, stating: “I have requested PM Gilani to accept my resignation as Pakistan Ambasssador to US.” “I have much to contribute to building a new Pakistan free of bigotry & intolerance. Will focus energies on that,” he said.

  3. State-run PTV reported that Gilani sought Haqqani’s resignation so that a “transparent inquiry” could be conducted into the memo issue. The envoy’s resignation had been accepted, it said.

  4. Haqqani was born in Karachi and was raised in a conservative but educated family in Malir, which is a relatively poor suburb of Karachi.
He began his interest in journalism while in high school. In year 1972, Haqqani became president of the student union of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami) at Government National Science College.
In 1973, he joined Karachi University and frequently visited the library at the US consulate, reading volumes of American history.

In 1988, he worked in the political campaign for IJI – an alliance led by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif. In 1990, he was special assistant to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif; from 1990-92, he was special assistant and spokesman for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif; from 1992-93, he became one of Pakistan’s youngest ambassadors, serving in Sri Lanka.
However, later from 1993-95, he switched sides and joined Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto as her spokesman. From 1995-96, he was chairman of the House Building Finance Corporation.
From 2004-08, Haqqani was an associate professor for international relations at Boston University. In addition, he co-chaired the Project on Islam and Democracy at the Hudson Institute in Washington, and was editor of the journal Current Trends in Islamists Ideology.
Among his numerous writing credits are “Pakistan Between Mosque and Military” for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; “Islam’s Medieval Outposts” for the journal Foreign Policy, and “The Role of Islam in Pakistan’s Future” for Washington Quarterly.

  10. Blasphemy: Sunni Tehreek lambast Sherry Rehman’s appointment
    By Owais Jafri / PPI
    Published: November 23, 2011

ISLAMABAD / MULTAN: The Sunni Tehreek (ST) on Wednesday expressed serious concerns over the appointment of Sherry Rehman as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States (US).
Speaking to PPI, Central leader of the Sunni Tehreek Shahid Ghauri said Rehman was already following “policies of the US and the Jewish lobby as she tried to abolish the country’s blasphemy laws.”
“We are not satisfied with Sherry Rehman appointment because she is not fair with Islam or the country,” he said.
In late 2010, Rehman’s life was threatened since she submitted a private member bill suggesting amendments to the blasphemy law.
Rehman was criticized by speakers of religio-political parties at large-scale rallies and kept a low profile in the ensuing months, particularly after the assassinations of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and the Minister for Minorities Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti.
(Read: Stand up against the blasphemy laws)
The Sunni Tehreek leader urged the government to appoint an ambassador who is loyal to the country and Islam. “Those who are confident and spies of United States and perusing anti-Islam policies should not be considered for such key posts,” he said.
Rehman was appointed Ambassador to the US by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on November 23.
Petition filed in Lahore High Court
A petition has been filed in the Multan Bench of the Lahore High Court against the appointment of Rehman as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US.
Fahim Akhtar Gill, a businessman in Multan, filed the application today. He has pleaded that Rehman is guilty of committing blasphemy on a television program of a news channel.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Gill said that Rehman was did not deserve the appointment and that she had violated the constitution and was accused of blasphemy.
If the court issues a stay order tomorrow, Rehman will not be able to assume duties as ambassador and the government notification will become null and void.
Gill said that thousands of Pakistanis had reservations over the appointment of Rehman.
“It is against the honor and pride of the federation and the people of Pakistan as Pakistan is a Muslim country,” he said.
Gill claimed that he had taken fatwas from religious scholars of more than four sects of Islam before filing the petition.
A petition had earlier been filed in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Mehar Nasir Hussain on the remarks Rehman had given on a television show. The judge had ordered that an FIR be registered against Rehman.
The Police had informed the petitioner that an FIR could not be filed as the show had been aired from Islamabad and it was not their jurisdiction.
The petitioner had later filed an application citing another petition, where an FIR was registered in Bahwalpur against a citizen of Lahore.

So, you are against GHQ? Abdullah Ibn Zubayr too was against Yazid. It is however inaccurate & dishonest to equate Ibn Zubayr with Hussain!

It will be more appropriate if professional opportunists & sycophants do not present themselves as Hussainis. Choose another metaphor!

What kind of Hussaini you are who never writes regular articles, organizes vigils for the ongoing massacre of the Balochs, Pashtuns & Shias?

  13. Hussain haqani has played an important role in” Karry Looger Bill”, In
which he made sure that all the financial aids will be given to civil and democratic government and not to army rules. That was his sin , which he committed to save the democracy and now the army warn to punish him with the help of judges – kingdom court.
