Here are a few interesting pictures of Social Media Mela – First India-Pakistan Social Media Conference organized by the US Consulate in Karachi and PeaceNiche (an anonymous NGO from Pakistan) on 13th and 14th July 2012 in Karachi.

Interestingly, the “alternative media” event is dominated by mainstream media persons and being given extensive coverage by the mainstream media including Dawn, Express Tribune and BBC Urdu. However, the participants of the event and their views seem to be anything but alternative. Pakistan’s leading social media blogs including but not limited to LUBP, Pakistan Blogzine, Al Ufaq, Daily Tawar, Khyber Watch etc were completely absent from the show.

Many of the bloggers stated that bribing them with ‘freebies’ challenged the integrity of the blogger and the content could be compromised. They reiterated that negative as well as positive feedback should both be taken with a pinch of salt. (Source)

  1. LOL. A gathering of thugs.

  2. There are some good guys & gals too. Raza, Marvi, Mehmal & Beena, can be taken out of the group.

  3. The title best describes how ‘Pakistani’ this event was.

  4. out of all big hypocrites that i know in this is Ali Arqam.

  5. @Likesit

Hey don’t forget Barrister Ali Chisthi!

  6. Izzat Afzai k boht Shukria!!!

  7. 3h Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
My differences with @theRealYLH on issues apart, I always appreciated him for his articles n cross-posted it on #LUBP wen I was the editor

    2h Yasser Latif Hamdani ‏@theRealYLH
@aliarqam I’ll admit that almost all disagreements bw us have been my rigidity and shortcomings and never your fault. I am genuinely sorry.

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
Their new recruits in #Pakistanblogzine don’t have a clue about last bitter episode b/w #LUBP n #PTH there are my old colleagues helping dem

    3h Awais Masood ‏@AwaisMasood
@aliarqam Another Laaiba type fake ID for LUBP propaganda: https://www.facebook.com/sheherzadey

    3h Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
@AwaisMasood hmm, have accepted a friend request on FB, have no issue if someone is associated to it, but personal attacks nt tolerated

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
I am very sorry to all those friends bearing my outrage on their timeline, as its absoultely a non issue for them

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
Included @mazdaki @marvisirmed and many others in the list “Anjuman Tahaffuz namos haqqani” their own editor has Haqqani pic as DP later

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
They attacked Haqqani for his past in recent #MemoGate issue, Mocked those supporting Haqqani as ‘Anjuman Tahaffuz Namose Haqqani” #LUBP #PB

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
But when I complain friends from #LUBP n #PB on something they say we are helpless in stopping these things from happening

    3h Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
I have restrained myself from such idiotic exchanges just because I have still very loving friends there, don’t wanna hurt dem

    Awais Masood ‏@AwaisMasood
@aliarqam psychological issues maybe: one self loathing member of urban elite having catharsis by cursing and declaring everybody as elite

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
@Razarumi In last social media summit, they were full of praises for you as you helped them to be introduced there to your ‘Elite gathering’

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
Then why my LUBP wallas are desperate with my pic from #SocMM12 with YLH, and calling me a hypocrite, in fact they are biggest hypocrite

    3h Raza Rumi ‏@Razarumi
@aliarqam Instead you should attack me and call me names to get yourself redeemed. You wannabe elite 🙂

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
When I appreciated RR, I’m faltterer while last year LUBP editors were thankful to @Razarumi for introducing n appreciating them in summit

    Ali Arqam ‏@aliarqam
When last year in July, two #LUBP editors Farhad and @JunaidQaiser have participated in the summit, It was nt urban elite gathering

  8. Hi, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your website in Chrome, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, superb blog!
